Madikeri: In response to the red alert issued for Kodagu district, Deputy Commissioner Venkataraja has declared a holiday for all schools and Pre-University (PU) colleges on 20 July, Saturday. The district is bracing for heavy rainfall in the coming days, with the weather forecast predicting severe conditions that may pose significant risks.
During a videoconference held on Friday with officials from various taluks, Deputy Commissioner Venkataraja emphasized the need for stringent precautionary measures to mitigate potential crises arising from the anticipated rain. He stressed the importance of safeguarding human lives and livestock amidst the adverse weather conditions.
“Public safety has to be our priority. In this direction, the officials in the respective taluks must work and ensure their safety,” stated Venkataraja. He directed the nodal officers to be vigilant and proactive in implementing safety measures to protect the residents of Kodagu.
The announcement of the school and PU college holiday is part of a broader strategy to minimize the risks posed by the heavy rainfall. Officials have been instructed to stay on high alert and coordinate with local authorities to address any emergencies promptly.
