Madikeri: The Kodagu district administration has announced a holiday for all schools, anganwadi centers, and PU colleges today in response to severe weather conditions. This decision comes as heavy rains and gusty winds continue to batter the region.
Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja issued the order following an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). "Given the heavy rain forecast and the IMD's orange alert for Kodagu, we have decided to declare a holiday for all educational institutions, including anganwadi centers," Raja said in a statement.
The heavy showers have also impacted local water bodies. The inflow of water to the Harangi dam has significantly increased due to the recent rains in the catchment areas. In response, authorities have released 20,000 cusecs of water from the dam into the river to manage the rising water levels.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and exercise caution as the district continues to experience intense rainfall and strong winds.
