Kodagu Cracks Down on Unregistered Home-Stays: Legal Action Imminent for Non-Compliance

Under the current regulations, all home-stays in the district are required to register with the Tourism Department.

Madikeri: In a push to ensure compliance with tourism regulations, the district administration of Kodagu has issued a stern reminder to home-stay operators about mandatory registration with the Tourism Department. Despite ample time provided for compliance, a significant number of home-stays remain unregistered, prompting the administration to take serious action.

Under the current regulations, all home-stays in the district are required to register with the Tourism Department. The district administration has mandated that unregistered home-stays must complete their registration process immediately or face legal consequences. Additionally, existing home-stays whose licenses have expired or are nearing expiration must renew their licenses to remain operational.

The Department of Tourism has outlined the registration process through their website, accessible at [https://kttf.karnatakatourism.org/login](https://kttf.karnatakatourism.org/login). Operators are expected to present a home-stay certificate or proof of registration application during official inspections. Failure to provide this documentation will result in legal action against the operators.

Public complaints regarding unregistered home-stays are also being encouraged. Residents can report such instances to the Deputy Director of the Tourism Department via mail at the Office of the Deputy Director, Department of Tourism, Stuart Hill Road, Madikeri, Kodagu District 571201, or through email at ddkodagutourism@gmail.com. Complaints can also be made by phone at 08272-200519.

Anita Bhaskar, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department, emphasized that it is crucial for all tourism-related businesses—including hotels, restaurants, resorts, tour operators, and amusement parks—to register their organizations on the Karnataka Tourism Department’s website at [http://kttf.karnatakatourism.org/](http://kttf.karnatakatourism.org/). This initiative aims to streamline tourism operations and ensure adherence to regulatory standards across the district.
