Kodagu Couple Found Dead on Railway Tracks in Hassan

Hassan: An elderly husband and wife were discovered dead on railway tracks in Hassan on Saturday night. The bodies were located along the stretch of track running through Karigowda Extension, close to the KSRTC bus stand.

The deceased have been identified as Daniel (85) and his wife Mary Daniel (84), natives of Chowdenahalli near Shanivarasanthe in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district.

According to the Railway Police, the couple is survived by two sons. Officials said the elderly pair had been residing at an old-age home for some time before recently moving back to stay with their son. Daniel had earlier worked as a daily-wage labourer in the construction sector. His elder son is engaged in construction activity in Shanivarasanthe, while the younger son is employed as a cab driver in Bengaluru.

Preliminary inquiries suggest that Daniel had taken Mary to Hassan for medical consultation, as she was undergoing treatment for dementia. However, investigators said the circumstances that led the couple to the railway tracks remain unclear.

The Railway Police have registered a case of unnatural death and initiated a probe to ascertain the sequence of events leading to the incident.
