Madikeri: Days after he vanished from police custody, accused murderer Ankur Rana is back behind bars. The Kodagu police confirmed his arrest, bringing an end to his brief, high-stakes escape.
Rana, hailing from Karnal, Haryana, managed to flee custody on October 31 during a crime scene reconstruction near Uppal, Hyderabad, leaving authorities scrambling. Kodagu’s Superintendent of Police, Ramarajan, shared the news of his capture, crediting a swift and determined special investigation team for tracking him down.
The chilling case traces back to the murder of Ramesh Kumar, a Hyderabad-based businessman, whose body was found dumped in a coffee estate near Suntikoppa in Kodagu. Investigations revealed a dark conspiracy allegedly involving Kumar's wife, Niharika, who, alongside Rana and accomplice Nikhil Myreddy, was taken into custody by Kodagu police late last month. But just as investigators pieced together the gruesome murder, Rana slipped through their fingers, evading capture in Telangana state.
The Kodagu police, unshaken by the setback, lodged a complaint with Telangana authorities and set their special team on a manhunt. After days on the run, Rana’s escape attempt ended with his capture, according to police.
