MADIKERI: With the southwest monsoon likely to arrive in June, Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkataraja has instructed all relevant officials to strengthen precautionary measures to mitigate potential rain-related disasters. He issued the directive during a District Disaster Management Authority meeting held at his office in Madikeri on Friday.

Chairing the session, Venkataraja emphasised the need for proactive steps to avoid loss of human and animal lives during the upcoming monsoon. He noted that nodal officers have already been designated and urged them to remain alert, particularly in vulnerable and high-risk zones within their respective areas.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the fire and emergency services department to remain fully prepared to assist residents in flood-prone regions and to closely coordinate with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel throughout the season.

Health and Family Welfare officials were asked to ensure the availability of essential medicines and step up public awareness campaigns to contain the spread of communicable diseases. Engineers from the Public Works Department and the Panchayat Raj Department were instructed to undertake immediate road repair works wherever necessary to ensure connectivity during heavy rains.

Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya, Additional Superintendent of Police Dinesh Kumar, and other officials from various departments at both district and taluk levels took part in the meeting.
