Madikeri: Kodagu has been witnessing intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds since Monday night, leading to a surge in water levels across the district. The Triveni Sangama in Bhagamandala has reached its full capacity for the second time this monsoon. Overflowing waters have inundated the Bhagamandala-Napoklu stretch, though vehicle movement remains unaffected due to a flyover in the area.

In response to the downpour, the Kodagu district administration has announced a holiday for educational institutions on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. According to an official order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, all anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges will remain shut. However, the II PUC examination-3 will be conducted as per the original schedule.

The district recorded an average of 48.80 mm rainfall over the past 24 hours, with Bhagamandala receiving the highest—122 mm. So far this year, Kodagu has received 913.84 mm of rainfall, a significant increase from 488.06 mm during the same period last year.

The rains have also caused structural damage in several areas. In Krishna Nagar, Ponnampet, a wall of H.K. Ravi’s house collapsed around 3 a.m. on Monday due to heavy wind and rain. Fortunately, no one was injured. Furniture, doors, and windows were also damaged in the incident.

In Badaga Banangala village, the front wall and roof of Ameena’s house gave way, but her family members escaped unhurt. Revenue officials, including Village Administrative Officer Srikanth and Ammathi Hobli Revenue Inspector Anil Kumar, visited the site.

Meanwhile, in 7th Hoskote, a tree fell on the house of Jamila and Alikutty, damaging the concrete roofing sheets.

The water level in River Cauvery at the Kushalnagar-Koppa border rose by 13 feet within a single day, adding to concerns across the region.
