Madikeri: In a significant breakthrough, the Kodagu district police recovered 104 mobile phones that had been reported stolen since 2022 and returned them to their rightful owners at a function held in Madikeri on Tuesday.
Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani R.N. said the recovered mobile phones, belonging to various brands, were collectively valued at around ₹11 lakh. The devices were traced and recovered over the past one month through sustained efforts by the Cyber Crime Police Station of Kodagu district in coordination with personnel from various police stations.
According to the police, the recovery was made during January 2026 using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. The stolen phones were traced to different locations not only within Kodagu district but also in neighbouring Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Ms. Bindu Mani said the CEIR platform had proved to be an effective tool in tracking lost and stolen mobile devices across States. She urged citizens who have lost their mobile phones to immediately lodge a complaint at the nearest police station and register the details on the CEIR portal to facilitate recovery.
Police officials said timely reporting and sharing of correct IMEI numbers significantly increase the chances of tracing stolen devices.
