Madikeri: A bomb scare disrupted functioning at the Kodagu district court on Monday after an anonymous email claimed that an explosive device had been placed inside the court building.
Soon after the alert was received, police personnel cleared the premises, asking advocates, litigants and visitors to vacate the complex as a safety measure. Court hearings were halted temporarily while security agencies began inspections.
Teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, along with a sniffer dog unit, carried out a detailed search of the entire court to rule out any danger. After an extensive sweep, officials confirmed that no suspicious object was found.
Kodagu Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani R.N. stated that the message was later confirmed to be a hoax. “The threat has turned out to be false. A case has been registered and we are probing the source of the email,” she said.
Police added that similar threat emails were sent to multiple courts across Karnataka, including the Karnataka High Court’s Dharwad Bench, the Bengaluru South district court, and district courts in Mandya and Mangaluru. Authorities conducted thorough checks at these locations as well, and all alerts were declared false.
Investigations are continuing to trace those responsible for the email threats.
