Madikeri: In view of the ongoing war in West Asia, the Kodagu district administration has issued a public advisory urging residents to report if their family members are stranded in the conflict-hit region.
According to a release from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), war has broken out in parts of West Asia and certain Gulf countries, leading to significant casualties and large-scale destruction of property. The escalation in hostilities has severely disrupted civilian life, with airstrikes, missile attacks and ground operations reported from several areas. Airports, seaports and key transport routes in some regions have faced partial or complete shutdowns, making evacuation and travel difficult.
Amid these developments, there are reports that several people from Karnataka, including workers and professionals employed in West Asia, may be caught in the crisis. Kodagu district, like many parts of the State, has a sizeable number of residents working abroad, particularly in Gulf nations.
Residents can contact the District Disaster Management Centre on the following numbers: 08272-221077 and 08272-221099. A dedicated WhatsApp number — 8550001077 — has also been provided for messages.
The district administration has appealed to families in Kodagu to immediately inform authorities if their relatives are stranded or facing distress in the affected countries. The information will be coordinated with higher authorities to facilitate necessary assistance and support.
