Heavy Rains Batter Kodagu, IMD Issues Orange Alert — Here Are The Photos Of The Damage

Madikeri: Incessant rainfall has continued to lash several parts of Karnataka’s Kodagu district over the past few days, triggering widespread damage to property. Numerous incidents have been reported across the district in the last 24 hours alone.
Here are some images from different parts of Kodagu, capturing the damage caused by the ongoing downpour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Kodagu, which will remain in effect until 8.30 a.m. on Sunday, July 27.

Kodagu experienced intense rainfall during the last week of May and throughout June, but saw a brief respite for most of July. However, the showers have intensified in recent days. The district received 54.01 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday.

Certain areas in the interior parts of Kodagu have been hit harder. Bhagamandala, the birthplace of the river Cauvery, recorded a heavy 179.6 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday, July 26.

Madikeri taluk as a whole received 310.7 mm of rainfall during the same period. In Somwarpet taluk, Shanthalli recorded 205 mm, followed by Shanivarsanthe (70 mm) and Koodlipet (62 mm). In Ponnampet taluk, Srimangala received 117.6 mm of rainfall, while Hudikeri registered 64.5 mm.

Rainfall remained steady through Saturday as well, with Kiraganduru receiving 70.5 mm and Made village recording 58.5 mm between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
