Madikeri: With relentless rainfall lashing Kodagu district, the Deputy Commissioner has declared a holiday for anganwadis, primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges on Wednesday, July 17, as a safety measure.
An orange alert has been issued across the district for two days due to the persistent and intense rain. Madikeri taluk, in particular, has reported strong winds accompanying the downpour, further worsening the situation.
The source region of the river Cauvery, including Talacauvery and Bhagamandala, has been experiencing heavy rainfall since early this week. This has led to a steady rise in water levels in the river, prompting district authorities to remain on high alert.
In Madikeri, the weather continues to be foggy, windy, and cold, disrupting daily life. Students and residents have reported difficulty commuting and managing in the chilly, rain-soaked conditions.
District officials have urged people to stay indoors unless necessary and avoid venturing near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone zones. Rescue teams and emergency services have been placed on standby.
