Gonikoppal Police Warn Shopkeepers of Vehicle Towing over Traffic Violations

GONIKOPPAL: In a bid to ease traffic congestion in Gonikoppal town, the local police have issued a strong advisory to shopkeepers through the Gonikoppa Chamber of Commerce — warning that vehicles parked illegally on main roads will be towed and action will be taken against violators.
In a letter sent by the Sub-Inspector of the Gonikoppal Police Station, traders were asked not to contribute to traffic jams by parking their own vehicles or allowing goods vehicles to block key roads in the commercial area. The advisory comes amid rising congestion on weekends and Sundays, when tourist movement surges along the Mysuru–Bengaluru Highway, Ponnampet Road, and Virajpet Road. The weekly Sunday market (sandy day) also leads to heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
The police noted that there are over 430 shops in the town. Shopkeepers have been asked to ensure that vendors loading and unloading goods do so only before 7 a.m. or after 8 p.m. They must also keep handcarts and goods off the main roads to maintain traffic flow.
Traders have been told to avoid parking their vehicles on busy stretches throughout the day, as it hinders public parking and adds to congestion. Instead, they have been urged to arrange for alternate parking spaces.
The police have made it clear that failure to follow these guidelines will result in the towing of vehicles and further action as per the law. The department urged full cooperation from the business community to keep Gonikoppal’s roads free and safe for all users.
