VIRAJPET: In a tragic incident early morning on Tuesday, four cows and a wild deer were electrocuted in Kunjalageri village, Bollumadu post, Virajpet taluk. The incident has triggered outrage among local residents, who allege negligence by the electricity department.
Three of the cows belonged to Chiyandira Suresh, while the fourth was owned by Chiyandira Subramani. The animals are alleged to have come into contact with a live electric wire that had snapped and fallen to the ground.
Speaking to The Kodagu Express, Chiyandira Suresh expressed deep anguish over the loss and held the electricity department responsible. “The department had been warned in advance about the danger. Even though we requested immediate action, no one came. Senior officials failed to respond despite being informed that a power line had snapped,” he said.
Suresh, whose cows were valued in lakhs, demanded that the compensation be recovered by cutting the salaries of negligent officials. “The pain we are going through is immense. Loss of cows must be compensated by the department,” he added.
Local residents are demanding an inquiry into the lapse and stronger safety measures to prevent such incidents. No official statement had been released by the electricity department at the time of filing this report.
