Eight Arrested in Coffee Estate Worker Murder Case in Kodagu

Madikeri: The Kodagu police have arrested eight persons in connection with the murder of an estate worker at Kattemadu village, which falls under the limits of the Madikeri Rural Police Station in Kodagu district.

According to Superintendent of Police Bindu Mani R.N., the victim, identified as Buro, was residing in the line houses of an estate owned by Devaiah. Police investigations revealed that Buro died after being assaulted with a club by his son, Prasanth Mudi (27). In an attempt to destroy evidence, the accused allegedly burnt the body after the murder.

Following the incident, the Madikeri Rural police registered a case under Sections 103(1), 238, 239 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and launched a detailed investigation. Police officials, along with the station’s crime detection staff and a team of forensic experts, visited the crime scene to collect material evidence and record statements.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on the night of January 11, when Buro and his son consumed alcohol together. A quarrel reportedly broke out over a trivial issue, during which Mudi, in an intoxicated state, allegedly assaulted and killed his father.

The police have so far arrested eight persons, including the prime accused Mudi and estate owner Devaiah, in connection with the case. Further investigation is under way.
