Siddapura: “Farmers can enhance income through diversification and innovation,” said Dr. Muralidhara B.M, Senior Scientist at the Central Horticultural Experiment Station, Chettalli, while addressing growers at a farmers’ meet organised by ITC Limited – ABD (Coffee) on Friday at the Kodava Cultural Association in Siddapura.
He highlighted the scope for value-added activities on farms, noting that adopting new methods and moving beyond conventional practices would help growers reduce risks and improve earnings. “Innovation and diversification are not just about adding crops, but about rethinking how farms can generate sustainable revenue streams,” he explained.

Earlier, Dr. S.A. Nadaf, Scientist at the Coffee Board’s Central Coffee Research Sub-Station (CRSS), Chettalli, delivered a session on soil fertility conservation. He emphasised techniques to sustain productivity while maintaining long-term soil health, calling it vital for the future of Kodagu’s coffee economy.

The interactive discussions reflected the enthusiasm of growers, who engaged with experts on practical approaches to sustainability and diversification. Organisers said the meet created a platform for farmers to gain fresh insights while also building stronger community networks for the growth of coffee farming in the region.
