Deputy Commissioner Urges Vigilance Ahead of Heavy Rain in Kodagu

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to proactively visit areas prone to landslides and flooding.

Madikeri: Kodagu Deputy Commissioner Venkat Raja convened a critical meeting with district officials on Monday to address the impending threat of heavy rainfall predicted in the next few days. Despite a brief respite from rain over the past two to three days, the forecast indicates a return to severe weather, prompting urgent preparations.

In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Raja emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness to tackle potential hazards, including landslides and flooding, which are common in the region. "Though the rain has reduced recently, we must be ready for the upcoming heavy rain. Our priority is to ensure the safety of all residents and prevent any disasters," he said.

The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to proactively visit areas prone to landslides and flooding. He highlighted the importance of creating public awareness about the risks and ensuring that preventive measures are in place. "Officials must engage with the community, educate them about safety precautions, and take necessary actions to mitigate risks," he added.

Raja underscored the significance of protecting human lives and livestock, drawing attention to the recent tragedy in Wayanad, Kerala, where a landslide resulted in significant loss of life. "We have seen the devastating impact of landslides in Wayanad. We must take all possible steps to avoid a similar situation in Kodagu," he said.
