CRPF Soldier From Kodagu Ends Life While Deployed in Kashmir

Madikeri: A 40-year-old CRPF personnel from Kodagu allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service weapon while on duty in South Kashmir on May 4. The deceased was identified as K.J. Naveen, a native of Yadavare village in Kodagu district.


According to a report in Praja Vani, Naveen, son of Kijan Joyappa and Vishalakshi, was serving in the 108th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He is survived by his parents, wife, son, daughter and relatives.


According to report, Naveen was posted at the Ladiyara Camp watch tower in the Tral region of Pulwama district.


Following a post-mortem examination at the military hospital in Srinagar, the body was taken to the CRPF office where officers and personnel paid homage to the coffin wrapped in the National Flag.


The mortal remains were later airlifted to Bengaluru and subsequently transported to Kodagu. The body reached Kushalnagar in the early hours of Tuesday and was later taken to Yadavare village for the public to pay their final respects.


Funeral rites were conducted at his farmland in the village on Tuesday afternoon. Somwarpet Tahsildar Krishnamurthy attended the ceremony, while personnel from the District Armed Reserve (DAR) police offered a gun salute as a mark of honour.
