Madikeri/Virajpet: The coffee harvest has begun in Kodagu, also known as Coorg, marking the start of a crucial season for thousands of growers in the region. Kodagu, one of India’s most prominent coffee-producing districts, is known for its shade-grown plantations, rich biodiversity and high-quality beans, particularly Robusta. With pickers returning to estates and curing works gradually becoming active, growers are closely tracking market movements to assess how the season may unfold.
According to current market rates, Robusta Cherry EP-370 (spot lift) is trading at ₹370, while Robusta fruit is priced at around ₹84 per kg for delivery. Meanwhile, Arabica cherry is fetching about ₹14,700 per bag.

Karnataka continues to dominate India’s coffee production, accounting for nearly 70% of the country’s output. Apart from Kodagu, major coffee-growing districts include Chikkamagaluru and Hassan, both of which contribute significantly to Arabica and Robusta cultivation. While Chikkamagaluru is traditionally associated with Arabica coffee, Hassan has emerged as a strong arabica producer over the years.
Growers across Karnataka say production this season is expected to be moderate, with uneven rainfall and intermittent dry spells affecting yields in some pockets. Labour availability and rising input costs, including fertilisers and transport, remain key concerns. However, farmers remain hopeful that stable export demand and favourable international prices could support better realisations as the harvest progresses in the coming weeks.
