Madikeri: Coffee prices in Karnataka's Kodagu district have remained steady with an upward trend, bringing a wave of cautious optimism among growers.

As of Friday, Robusta Parchment is trading between ₹22,200 and ₹22,500 per 50 kg, while Robusta Cherry ranges from ₹12,150 to ₹13,100 per 50 kg. In the Arabica category, Arabica Parchment continues to fetch a premium, priced between ₹26,300 and ₹27,000 per 50 kg, and Arabica Cherry is trading between ₹15,200 and ₹17,000 per 50 kg, according to the latest market update from the Karnataka Planters' Association.
Meanwhile, black pepper, another key crop in the region, is currently priced at ₹735 per kg, reflecting a steady market amidst concerns over production decline due to erratic weather.
Kodagu, also known as Coorg, accounts for nearly one-third of India’s total coffee production, making it the largest coffee-producing district in the country. The region predominantly grows Robusta, with Arabica cultivated at higher elevations. Despite recent challenges including unseasonal rainfall, labour shortages, and pest issues, growers in Kodagu have managed a moderate harvest this season.
While prices have improved compared to the same period last year, input costs have also risen, particularly for fertilisers and labour. Growers are cautiously hopeful that stable market prices will help offset rising operational costs.
