Gonikoppa: The Codava National Council (CNC) will hold a peaceful human chain program at the Gonikoppa bus stand on June 24 at 10:30 AM. This demonstration aims to protest against the alleged conversion and disposal of large-scale pristine lands in the Cauvery catchment area by various powerful entities, including resort magnates, corporate houses, economic offenders, and unethical political figures, according to CNC.
The CNC highlights the alleged acquisition and conversion of 2400 acres of BBTC coffee estates in Siddapur, 300 acres under Thadiyandamol hillocks, and several other areas within the eco-sensitive zones. These conversions are allegedly to develop mega townships, villas, and resorts, particularly targeting the Western Ghats and UNESCO World Heritage sites, CNC President Nandinervanda U Nachappa stated in its release.
The CNC accuses these activities of violating the Dr. Swaminathan Committee report recommendations and disregarding Article 51(A) of the Indian Constitution, which mandates the preservation of natural heritage and ecological balance. The conversion of agricultural lands into commercial ventures poses a threat to the indigenous Codava identity, local demographics, and environmental sustainability.
“The CNC urges all Codavas and supporters to join the human chain and support their mission for self-determination rights under international law and the Indian Constitution, seeking Codavaland's geopolitical autonomy and protection for the Codava tribe,” release stated.

The protest will simply remain a protest if they don't show the courage to announce names of those offenders, political figures and so on. Let them say who's erring and the administration may take stringent action on them.
