Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) marked the 30th consecutive celebration of Codava Tribal New Year Day, known as Edmyar 1, as per the Codava Calendar on April 14.
The celebration began at 7 AM with a ritualistic worship of Mother Earth in a paddy field in Bettathur village, followed by traditional ploughing using bullocks. The event, led by CNC President N.U. Nachappa, highlighted the Codava tribe's deep connection with the land.
“The CNC aims to raise awareness of Codava culture and history while advocating for several key demands,” a release stated.
The event drew members of the Koopadhira clan, including its President Koopadhira Pushpa Muthappa and other members. The celebration showcased the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Codava tribe, emphasizing their continued fight for recognition and preservation.
