CNC to Mark 35th Annual Codava National Day, Constitution Day on November 26

Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) will observe its 35th Annual Codava National Day alongside Indian Constitution Day on 26 November 2025 at Capitol Village on the outskirts of Madikeri.

The organisation in a release said that the event will highlight its long-standing campaign for Codavaland geo-political autonomy and other constitutional aspirations of the indigenous Codava community.

Retired IAS officer, historian, political scientist and Harvard scholar Dr. Sanjeev Chopra will attend as Chief Guest. He is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the Council’s demand for geo-political autonomy for Codavaland.

CNC Chairman N.U. Nachappa said the annual observance serves as a reaffirmation of the Codava community’s “sustainable and apolitical journey” to secure its constitutional rights. He added that several key resolutions aimed at advancing the community’s demands will be tabled and adopted during the programme.

The event will begin at 10.30 a.m., and the CNC has urged participants and supporters to register their solidarity with the organisation’s cause. The Council describes itself as the “voice and conscience” of the mono-ethnic and animistic Codava community, advocating for cultural, political, and territorial recognition.

According to the release, a panel of senior public figures and community leaders will join as Guests of Honour. They include A.H. Vishwanath, MLC, Chiriyapanda Suresh Nanjappa, President of the Bengaluru Kodava Samaja; Mundanda Nanaiah, President of the Napoklu Kodava Samaj; and Dr. Mathanda Aiyappa, physician and social worker.
