CM D.K. Shivakumar Condoles With IPS Officer Sunil Achayya After Wife's Death in Elephant Attack

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Friday expressed his condolences to senior IPS officer A. Sunil Achayya following the death of his wife, Sandhya Achayya, in a wild elephant attack in Kodagu district.


Shivakumar spoke to Achayya, who is currently serving as Director General of Police (DGP) in Delhi, over the phone and conveyed his sympathies. Describing the incident as shocking and tragic, the Chief Minister said he was deeply saddened to learn of the loss.


“I am deeply saddened by this tragic incident. We share your grief and pray that God gives you and your family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” Shivakumar told Achayya during the conversation.


The Chief Minister also assured him that the State government would take necessary measures to address the growing menace of wild elephants in the region. He said instructions had been issued to the concerned officials to take appropriate steps to prevent such incidents in the future.


Sandhya Achayya, 51, was killed after a wild elephant suddenly attacked her while she was inspecting work at a coffee estate near Thithimathi in Ponnampet taluk of Kodagu district on Thursday morning.
