MADIKERI: Coffee prices across major growing regions in Karnataka, including Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru, remained largely stable on Friday, May 16, with no major fluctuations reported in either Arabica or Robusta varieties.


According to Karnataka Coffee Planters Association updates, Arabica Parchment was priced between Rs. 25,800 and Rs. 26,500 per 50 kg, while Arabica Cherry ranged from Rs. 14,400 to Rs. 16,200 per 50 kg. Meanwhile, Robusta Parchment was trading in the band of Rs. 20,500 to Rs. 21,200 per 50 kg, and Robusta Cherry fetched between Rs. 11,300 and Rs. 12,300 per 50 kg.


In addition to coffee, black pepper, another major spice crop grown in the hilly terrains of Karnataka, particularly in Kodagu, was priced at Rs. 670 per kg, maintaining its recent price levels.


Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru districts are among the top coffee-producing regions in India, contributing a significant share to the country's overall production. Kodagu alone accounts for over 35% of India’s coffee output, with a majority of cultivation dedicated to Robusta, grown under shade in the Western Ghats. Arabica is cultivated more in higher altitudes, especially in parts of Chikkamagaluru.


Karnataka continues to lead India in coffee production, accounting for over 70% of the national output, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Coffee is grown across approximately 4.5 lakh hectares in India, with Karnataka cultivating more than 2.5 lakh hectares.
