Madikeri / Chikamagaluru / Hassan: The Karnataka Planters’ Association (KPA)’s latest coffee price update as of July 12, 2025, shows divergent trends in coffee and pepper prices across the prime-growing regions of Kodagu (Coorg), Chikamagaluru, and Hassan.
Arabica parchment saw a modest rise of ₹100, now trading between ₹26,000 and ₹27,000 per 50 kg. In contrast, Arabica cherry weakened by ₹700, slipping to a range of ₹14,000–15,100. Robusta parchment eased ₹500 to ₹19,000–20,000, while Robusta cherry dropped ₹350, now at ₹10,500–10,850.
Black pepper also softened slightly, with prices decreasing ₹10 to ₹670 per kg.
These price swings are crucial for the region’s small and medium planters, who have been advocating for supportive pricing policies. Amid these fluctuations, growers continue to manage higher labour costs, changing weather patterns, and sustained pressure on margins.
Karnataka remains India’s coffee powerhouse, contributing nearly 70% of national output. Kodagu leads the charge producing over 30% on its own followed by Chikamagaluru and Hassan. Recent estimates by the Coffee Board indicate Kodagu yielded approximately 130,000 MT, Chikamagaluru around 93,000 MT, and Hassan close to 43,500 MT during the 2023–24 season. Arabica thrives in Chikkamagaluru’s highlands, while the robust Robusta dominates Kodagu’s lower elevations.
