Karnataka coffee and pepper prices in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan

Madikeri: The Karnataka Planters’ Association has released the latest price update for coffee and black pepper, for major producing districts — Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan.

As of June 16, 2025, Arabica Parchment is priced between ₹26,000 and ₹27,000 per 50 kg, while Arabica Cherry fetches between ₹14,000 and ₹15,100 per 50 kg. Robusta Parchment is trading at ₹19,000 to ₹20,000 per 50 kg, and Robusta Cherry stands at ₹10,150 to ₹10,850 per 50 kg. Black pepper continues to command ₹670 per kg.

These districts together account for nearly 70% of India’s total coffee production, with Kodagu leading the output, followed by Chikkamagaluru and Hassan. Arabica and Robusta varieties are both cultivated extensively, with Robusta occupying a larger share in Kodagu due to its suitability for lower elevations and hardier nature. Arabica, on the other hand, thrives in the higher altitudes of Chikkamagaluru.

Despite consistent pricing, growers remain concerned about fluctuating yields, erratic rainfall, and rising input costs.

Black pepper, often grown as an intercrop on coffee estates, continues to play an important role in boosting farm incomes. However, competition from Vietnam and a spike in labour costs have weighed on farmer margins.

Planters are closely monitoring both international trends and domestic weather conditions as the monsoon advances.
