Napoklu: The annual fair of Yemmemadu Dargah Sharif, widely known as Yemmemadu Makham Urs, is scheduled to take place in Yemmemadu near Napoklu, Kodagu district, from February 21 to 28, 2025. The dates were announced following a meeting chaired by Yemmemadu Jamaat President PA Abubakar Saqafi.
PA Abubakar Saqafi highlighted the significance of the Yemmemadu Dargah, emphasizing its role as a center of religious tolerance. "The dargah is visited by people of all faiths, making it a symbol of unity in diversity. This year, we have decided to conduct a grand Urs for a week," he said.
The Yemmemadu Dargah is a revered shrine, built in memory of Hazrath Sufi Shaheed and Sayyed Hassan Sakaf Halramir, two Sufi saints who arrived from Persia over 366 years ago to spread their teachings, according to dargahinfo.com. Their lives were devoted to the service of the poor, and the dargah has since become a significant spiritual center in Kodagu also known as Kodagu. The annual Urs attracts lakhs of devotees from across Karnataka and Kerala, regardless of their religious background, who come to seek blessings from the Sufi saints.
The Yemmemadu Dargah holds a special place in the hearts of Kodava Muslims and is equally revered by the Kodava community in Kodagu. The Yemmemadu Tajul Islam Muslim Jamaat oversees the management of the dargah and the Urs, along with an Arabic madrasa and an orphanage affiliated with the Yemmemadu mosque.
The week-long Urs is expected to draw a large number of devotees, continuing the tradition of harmony and devotion that the Yemmemadu Dargah represents.
