Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna stepped onto the cricket field on Wednesday to play for his family team, Ajjikuttira, in the ongoing Chekkera Cricket 2025 tournament at Hudikeri.

HUDIKERI: Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna took to the cricket field on Wednesday, representing his family team — Ajjikuttira — in the ongoing Chekkera Cricket 2025 tournament being held in Hudikeri.

According to the tournament organisers, Ponnanna’s participation added excitement to the annual Kodava cricket festival, which sees members of the Kodava community coming together to play in family-based teams. Chekkera Cricket is one of the many family tournaments that celebrate Kodava tradition and promote unity through sport.

“Ponnanna steps into the ground to represent Ajjikuttira family in the Kodava cricket tournament,” the organisers said, adding that his presence was warmly welcomed by players and spectators alike.

The Kodava cricket tournament this year organised by the Chekkera family is an annual sporting event in Kodagu, with hundreds of families participating. The tournament not only promotes sportsmanship but also strengthens familial and cultural bonds.
