Somwarpet : The United Plantation Workers Union in Kodagu has announced plans to stage a protest in Somwarpet on June 13, Thursday. The protest aims to address various issues faced by estate workers, including the lack of protection from animal attacks.
HM Somappa, the Union President in Kodagu, highlighted the dire living conditions of plantation workers, stating that the government has not provided them with their own houses. He emphasized that workers have been living in line houses inside coffee estates for many years and should be allocated lands to build their own houses by the government.
Moreover, Mr. Somappa expressed concern over the safety of plantation workers, noting that many have died or been injured due to animal attacks while working in coffee plantations. He urged the forest department to take measures to tackle the human-animal conflict in the district.
The protest is expected to draw attention to these pressing issues and demand action from the authorities to ensure the well-being and safety of plantation workers in Kodagu.
