Kodagu Bans Use of ‘Pressure Mid’ Loudspeakers During Festive Season

According to the order, loudspeakers fitted with ‘Pressure Mid’ devices were found to generate sound beyond permissible limits, causing inconvenience and disturbance to residents.

Madikeri: The Kodagu district administration has banned the installation and use of ‘Pressure Mid’ devices in loudspeakers across the district in view of the upcoming Gauri-Ganesha festival, Vijayadashami (Dasara) and other festivals.

Kodagu Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Somasekhar S.J. issued the order citing concerns over excessive noise and public disturbance during festivals in previous years.

According to the order, loudspeakers fitted with ‘Pressure Mid’ devices were found to generate sound beyond permissible limits, causing inconvenience and disturbance to residents. The devices are specifically used to significantly increase the intensity of sound from loudspeakers.

The decision was taken based on reports submitted by the Kodagu Superintendent of Police and the regional office of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). The administration said the measure was necessary to maintain public peace and law and order in the district.

The ban will remain in force from September 14 to October 31, 2026, covering the festive period. The order has been issued under the provisions of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and Section 35 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963.

The Deputy Commissioner warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found violating the order by installing or using ‘Pressure Mid’ devices.
