Ponnampet: Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday held the previous BJP government responsible for the ongoing C and D land disputes in Kodagu district. Speaking to reporters in Ponnampet after laying the foundation stone for the new taluk office, he said the issue had worsened due to the inaction of the former government.

According to a report by The Times of India, “The High Court’s order on C and D land was issued in 2021. The then BJP government should have taken a clear position and resolved the matter. Instead, they accepted the court’s verdict without objection,” he said. As a result, the current Congress government is unable to make changes to the ruling, he added. “We plan to take the matter to the Supreme Court. Until the apex court gives its decision, our hands are tied,” the minister stated.

Byre Gowda also criticised the BJP for neglecting administrative development, noting that it had failed to complete the construction of taluk offices in 49 newly created taluks. “Our government has now initiated work on these projects to ensure every taluk has a functional administrative office,” he said.

The minister announced that the state cabinet had approved ₹466 crore for disaster relief works, adding that nearly seven districts affected by heavy monsoon rains would benefit. “Around ₹500 crore will be used to reinforce landslide-prone and vulnerable areas,” he said.
