Republic Day Security: Bengaluru International Airport Advisory Urges Passengers to Plan Travel Early

Bengaluru: Ahead of Republic Day on January 26, the operator of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has issued a travel advisory urging passengers to plan their journeys well in advance and factor in additional time for airport formalities.

The advisory comes in the wake of heightened security arrangements that are routinely put in place across the city during national celebrations. With enhanced checks expected at entry points and within the terminal, passengers have been cautioned against last-minute arrivals that could lead to delays in check-in and security clearance.

Bengaluru Airport authorities have also flagged a likely increase in passenger footfall due to the long Republic Day weekend, which traditionally sees a spike in both leisure and family travel. The combination of higher traffic and stricter security protocols could result in longer queues at check-in counters, security screening areas and boarding gates.

“We are anticipating a surge in passenger volume during the Republic Day long weekend. Additionally, owing to the enhanced security measures for Republic Day, all passengers are advised to plan their travel to the airport to allow sufficient time for check-in and security procedures. For flight related information, please get in touch with your respective airline. We understand your cooperation” the advisory stated.

Passengers travelling from Kodagu (Coorg) to Bengaluru Airport should start their journey early, as the road distance is substantial — approximately 280–300 km by road and typically takes around 5–7 hours depending on traffic and the mode of transport chosen. Travellers can opt for private cars or taxis, which offer the most direct route, or choose state-run KSRTC Airport Flybus services connecting Coorg and Bengaluru.
