Kannur(Kerala): Kannur International Airport has announced enhanced international connectivity to London through two major Indian carriers, offering travellers from north Kerala and Kodagu also known as Coorg more options to reach the UK via domestic hubs.

According to social media posts shared by the airport, IndiGo will operate a Kannur–London service with a connection through Delhi. The service, which will connect to Heathrow Airport, is scheduled to operate four days a week — Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The departure from Kannur is at 6.05 a.m., with arrival in London at 5.25 p.m. local time. The service will be effective from February 6, 2026, with the airport advising passengers to verify timings on IndiGo’s official website.

In addition, Air India Express has announced a daily Kannur–London connection via Bengaluru. The flight departs Kannur at 10.15 a.m. and arrives in London at 7.30 p.m. local time. The Bengaluru–London sector is operated by Air India, providing a seamless international transfer.

The new connections would significantly benefit expatriates, students and business travellers from the Malabar region and Kodagu, strengthening Kannur’s position as a key international gateway in Kerala and neighboring Karnataka.

International traffic fuels growth at Kannur airport:

Kannur International Airport was envisioned as a game-changing infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting air connectivity in the north Malabar region and adjoining parts of Karnataka, especially the Coorg belt, also referred to as Kodagu. Since it began commercial operations in December 2018, the airport has shown steady expansion, registering an average annual growth of about 7% in passenger volumes. International services have expanded at a faster pace, recording a 14% increase in the previous financial year.

During the 2024–25 financial year, the airport logged a total of 11,397 aircraft movements. International flights made up 6,781 of these operations, underlining the airport’s strong global connectivity, while domestic flights accounted for the remaining 4,616 movements. The data indicates that overseas services continued to form the bulk of air traffic, although domestic operations also played a notable role in overall flight activity.

Passenger numbers followed a similar pattern. In 2024–25, Kannur International Airport catered to a total of 1,364,038 travellers. Of these, 978,831 were international passengers, representing the larger share of the airport’s traffic, while domestic travellers numbered 385,207.
