Hyderabad: Actor Rashmika Mandanna, a native of Kodagu, and her husband, actor Vijay Deverakonda, have filed a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime authorities in Hyderabad, seeking an investigation into alleged fabricated content, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and coordinated online harassment targeting them across social media platforms.

The complaint was submitted on Monday following days of online trolling directed at the couple, which intensified after their appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9 on October 21. During the episode, the actors spoke openly about their relationship and marriage for the first time. Rashmika’s revelation that she had asked Vijay to marry her every day for a year subsequently drew widespread reactions, including criticism, mockery and what their team described as deliberately fabricated narratives intended to damage their reputation.

In a statement, the actors’ team said the complaint identified specific online publications and digital material that allegedly contained false narratives, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and instances of targeted harassment. Relevant links and supporting evidence have been submitted to the authorities for examination, it said.

The team emphasised that the complaint was not intended to restrict legitimate criticism or freedom of expression.

“While we fully respect freedom of speech, individual opinions and the right to express criticism, there is a clear distinction between expressing an opinion and presenting fabricated, manipulated or materially misleading claims as facts,” the statement read.

The complaint also seeks an investigation into whether there was evidence of coordinated or paid campaigns behind the circulation of the alleged misleading content.

The team said it hoped the authorities would investigate the matter in accordance with the law and take appropriate action if wrongdoing was established.

It further warned that each identified instance of publishing, reposting or amplifying potentially unlawful content could be examined individually. The actors’ team said it would pursue legal remedies wherever warranted.

The complaint marks the couple’s formal response to the online content, which they allege goes beyond criticism and involves the deliberate circulation of misleading material targeting them.
