Human Chain Demonstration by CNC in Clock Tower, Virajpet

Virajpet: On July 24, Wednesday, a peaceful human chain demonstration was organized by the Codava National Council (CNC) at the Virajpet Clock Tower.

The event addressed the alleged conversions and disposal of large-scale pristine lands in the Cauvery catchment area by various entities including resort magnates, corporate houses, economic offenders, MNC & NRI tycoons, and others. “These entities are accused of constructing mega townships, gigantic villas, and mansions across Coorg,” CNC President NU Nachappa stated in the release.

The press release stated, "The conversion of agricultural lands into commercial ventures is plundering and pillaging our pristine lands and perennial water sources and is detrimental to the Indigenous Codava identity, existence, and Codava interests." It called for self-determination rights under international law and Codavaland geo-political autonomy.

N U Nachappa, concluded the protest with concerns over the refusal of petitions by indigenous Codavas while facilitating external mega projects, urging adherence to constitutional duties and rights.
