Notices Generated for 58,883 Voters in Kodagu Under SIR

Failure to appear could lead to deletion of names; voters required to submit prescribed documents

Madikeri: Notices have been generated for as many as 58,883 voters in Kodagu as part of the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with voters identified under “No Mapping” and “Logical Discrepancy” required to respond and produce prescribed documents to retain their names in the final electoral roll.

The second phase of the SIR process commenced on August 31 following the publication of the draft electoral rolls. The notice distribution process is being carried out through Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in the Madikeri and Virajpet Assembly constituencies.

57,641 notices yet to be served

As of September 1, notices had been served on 1,242 voters in the district — 937 in the Madikeri constituency and 305 in Virajpet. Notices to the remaining 57,641 voters are yet to be served, according to a report in Shakthi.

In the Madikeri constituency, 9,252 voters were identified under Logical Discrepancy and 9,533 under No Mapping, taking the total number of voters for whom notices have been generated to 18,785. Of these, notices to 17,842 voters are yet to be served.

In Virajpet, 26,558 voters have been identified under Logical Discrepancy and 13,550 under No Mapping. Notices have been generated for 40,108 voters in the constituency. However, as of September 1, only 305 voters had received the notices through BLOs, leaving notices to 39,799 voters yet to be served.

Failure to appear could lead to deletion

Voters who receive notices are required to appear before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) on the date specified in the notice and produce the documents mentioned on its reverse side.

The notice will specify the reason for its issuance and contain details such as the voter’s name, EPIC number, booth details, date, time and venue of the hearing. The mobile phone number of the concerned BLO will also be provided so that voters can seek clarification in case of any confusion.

If a voter is unable to attend the hearing on the date specified by the ERO, one exemption will be granted. However, if the voter remains absent for a second time, their name could ultimately be removed from the electoral roll.

Documents crucial to retaining names

For voters who receive notices, retaining their names in the final electoral roll will depend on the submission of documentary evidence prescribed by the Election Commission.

Even after appearing before the ERO and submitting the required documents, voters whose names are not retained in the electoral roll will have the option of challenging the decision of the ERO or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) before the District Election Officer.

The notice distribution process is scheduled to continue until October 22, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 27.
