Necessary steps to be taken to establish KSRTC Divisional Office in Shanivarasanthe, Kodagu, says Ramalinga Reddy

Reddy also spoke about the broader changes in the Karnataka transport sector, particularly following the introduction of the government's Shakti scheme.

Shanivarasanthe: Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced that necessary steps would be taken to establish a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation(KSRTC) divisional unit in Shanivarasanthe, Kodagu district. The minister made this statement during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new bus stand in Shanivarasanthe, held recently.

Speaking at the event, Reddy highlighted the significant improvements in bus services across Kodagu. He noted that while there is already a KSRTC bus depot in Madikeri, and a new one under construction in Kushalnagar, it would be challenging to set up a divisional office to cater to both depots. Instead, he proposed starting a divisional office in nearby Ramanathapura, which would serve four other depots. "Efforts will be made on priority for this," the minister assured.

Reddy also spoke about the broader changes in the Karnataka transport sector, particularly following the introduction of the government's Shakti scheme. "Lakhs of women are travelling by bus every day," he said, adding that the scheme has led to an increase in the number of passengers. To meet the growing demand, 4,500 new buses have been purchased. Additionally, the minister announced that 9,000 new jobs, including positions for drivers, conductors, and other officials, are being filled in KSRTC.

In a further announcement, Reddy revealed plans for the construction of a new bus stand in Kodlipet, another area within the district. Addressing concerns raised by private bus owners, he promised to take all necessary steps to ensure smooth transportation across Kodagu. "Necessary steps will also be taken for a new bus route in the district," he added.

The event was attended by Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda, Kodagu MLC Suja Kushalappa, District Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee President Dharmaja Uthappa, and other dignitaries.

This initiative is expected to enhance transport infrastructure in Kodagu, benefiting both residents and tourists.
