Virajpet: Virajpet MLA and Chief Minister's Legal Adviser, A.S. Ponnanna, urged students to seek meaningful lives with predetermined goals during the scholarship distribution ceremony of the late A.K. Subbaiah and Ponnamma Endowment Fund. The event, held on Tuesday at the MLA's home office in Virajpet, was organised on behalf of the A.K. Subbaiah and Ponnamma Charitable Trust.
In his speech, Ponnanna emphasized the importance of setting noble goals in life, particularly for students at a formative stage. "It is crucial for every student to have a noble goal in their life," he remarked, underscoring the role that purpose plays in achieving success and personal fulfillment.
The endowment fund, established in memory of Ponnanna's parents, was created with the support of his family to assist students facing financial difficulties, this is the fourth year the scholarship is distributed. The fund specifically recognises and supports meritorious students in their final year of studies, with a focus on those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including female students. Ponnanna highlighted the program's aim to address the challenges faced by many students who are forced to drop out due to their parents' financial constraints.
Kodagu District Congress Party President, Dharmaja Uthappa, also addressed the gathering, praising the initiative. He lauded the Ponnanna family's continued dedication to supporting education in the region, expressing hope that their service would persist and inspire others.
Ponnanna’s brother Naren Cariappa was also present at the event. The programme concluded with the distribution of scholarships to 130 deserving students, reinforcing the Ponnanna family's commitment to empowering the next generation through education.
A K Subbaiah: A Voice for the Underprivileged
Ajjikuttira Kariappa Subbaiah, Ponnanna’s father, began his career as a fiery politician and became a leading advocate and social activist in Karnataka. The late A K Subbaiah, popularly known as AKS, was not just a politician but also a highly respected legal expert. Renowned for his candid nature, he was unafraid to criticise the missteps of any political party.
A K Subbaiah was a dedicated activist who led numerous campaigns advocating for the rights of the underprivileged and often represented them in court.
