MLA Ponnanna says Allegations in BJP Worker’s Suicide Case Proven Baseless

Madikeri: Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna on Monday said that a ‘B report’ has been filed in connection with the death of BJP worker Vinay Somayya, proving that the allegations against him and others were unfounded.

Addressing the media in Madikeri, Ponnanna who is also legal advisor to the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, “It has been proven that the allegations against me, Madikeri MLA Dr Manthar Gowda, and Congress worker Thineera Maina of having a role in the case are baseless.”

A 40-year-old BJP worker from Madikeri, Vinay Somayya was found dead at his office in Bengaluru’s Nagawara locality on the night of April 3. Before his death, he had allegedly posted a message on social media alleging harassment by Congress leaders, naming Ponnanna, Gowda, and Maina.

Ponnanna accused BJP leaders of exploiting the tragedy for political gain. “BJP state leaders as well as district leaders indulged in politics even over Vinay’s death. Those who did politics over a death should apologise,” he demanded.

He further criticised the BJP leadership for not supporting Vinay’s family. “The BJP leaders, who did not stand by the family of the late Vinay, instead did politics and walked away. Now, it is I who must extend the necessary support to his bereaved family,” he said.
