Madikeri to Host First-Ever ‘Coffee Dasara’ During 2024 Dasara Festivities

Scheduled for October 6 and 7, the event will take place at Gandhi Maidan, Madikeri.

Madikeri: Madikeri is set to witness the debut of Coffee Dasara during this year's celebrated Madikeri Dasara, bringing a unique focus on the coffee industry to the traditional festival.

Scheduled for October 6 and 7, the event will take place at Gandhi Maidan, Madikeri, and aims to highlight innovations and advancements in coffee cultivation, alongside alternative farming methods.

Madikeri MLA Mantar Gowda, after a meeting with officials and representatives from coffee growers’ associations, expressed optimism about Coffee Dasara becoming an informative platform for those involved in the coffee sector. "This event should serve as an opportunity for growers and the general public to learn about innovations in the coffee industry, as well as related agricultural practices," Gowda said.

The event will include stalls featuring cafes that showcase a wide array of coffee-related products. Gowda further noted that Coffee Dasara would introduce visitors to alternative farming practices such as bamboo farming, dairy farming, and apiculture (beekeeping). The goal is to provide a comprehensive view of sustainable agriculture practices that can complement coffee cultivation in Kodagu.

In addition to showcasing these practices, Coffee Dasara will feature the participation of officials from the Coffee Board, agriculture experts, and representatives from the Karnataka Growers' Association and the Kodagu Planters' Association. Their involvement will allow for valuable knowledge-sharing sessions aimed at benefiting local coffee growers and farmers.

According to Anil H.T., President of the Cultural Sub-Committee for Madikeri Dasara, the event will feature 32 stalls open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on October 6, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 7. Additionally, seminars on agriculture will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days, featuring experts who will discuss key issues and trends in the agricultural sector.

A logo for Coffee Dasara is expected to be unveiled soon, marking the formal launch of this much-anticipated event.
