Madikeri Lawyer Suspended for Remarks Against Field Marshal Cariappa and General Thimayya

Madikeri: Madikeri Bar Association has suspended lawyer K.R. Vidyadhar for six months following allegations of making derogatory remarks about Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General K.S. Thimayya in a social media post. The decision was taken on Monday, November 25, during a meeting chaired by the Association's President, M.A. Niranjan.

The suspension has drawn widespread reactions across Kodagu District BJP General Secretary Mahesh Jaini, welcomed the Bar Association’s decision, calling for Vidyadhar’s expulsion from Kodagu. "The accused has sown seeds of poison in the community and caused societal unrest," Jaini said.

Former Karnataka Law Minister and senior member of the Madikeri Bar Association, M.C. Nanaiah, condemned the social media post and urged Kodagu Superintendent of Police Ramarajan to take legal action against Vidyadhar. "There are good and bad people in every community, but blaming an entire community for the actions of one person is unacceptable," Nanaiah said, appealing for peace in the district and expressing his support for the suspension.

Virajpet MLA A.S. Ponnanna, who also serves as the Legal Advisor to Karnataka’s Chief Minister, expressed his anguish over the incident. "The derogatory post against our brave army personnel deeply shocked me. While it is painful that the accused was granted bail, justice will take its course. This is not the time to create chaos but to act with patience and sensitivity," Ponnanna said, urging residents to maintain peace and trust the legal system.

On Friday, Vidyadhar was arrested late at night by the Kodagu police for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa and General K.S. Thimayya in a social media post. He was presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Madikeri, where the government prosecutor filed an objection opposing bail. However, the court granted him conditional bail later that night, resulting in his release.
