Landslide in Madikeri Damages Homes, Orange Alert Issued for Kodagu


Intense rainfall in Madikeri late Wednesday night caused a landslide that resulted in damage to three homes in Thyagaraja Colony.

Madikeri: Heavy rainfall in Madikeri triggered a landslide that damaged three homes in Thyagaraja Colony late Wednesday night. The incident, exacerbated by ongoing monsoon conditions, saw houses partially destroyed, leaving residents displaced and in need of immediate assistance.


In a separate incident, a tree fell on Kekada Ravi Cheyanna’s house in B Badaga village near Cherambane, causing substantial damage. Additionally, an electricity pole collapsed near Ballimada Raju Devaiah’s residence in Besagur Village near Balele, leading to disruptions in power supply.

The district administration, responding to the heightened weather conditions, has issued an Orange Alert for Kodagu district, effective until 8:30 a.m. on June 28. This advisory, based on inputs from the India Meteorological Department, warns of continued heavy rainfall.

According to meteorological data, Kodagu has recorded a cumulative rainfall of 644.45 mm from January to June 26 this year, significantly surpassing last year's figure of 234.62 mm during the same period. The increased precipitation has heightened concerns over safety and infrastructure stability across the district, prompting authorities to urge residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
