Madikeri: The long-awaited four-lane highway between Srirangapatna and Kushalnagar is set to commence construction within the next three months. The project aims to address the deteriorating condition of the existing road connecting Mysuru and Kodagu, which has been plagued by increasing traffic and frequent accidents.
The 92-kilometre highway, estimated to cost ₹4,130 crore, will connect Srirangapatna, Hunsur, Periyapatna, and Kushalnagar, significantly improving regional connectivity. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Member of Parliament for Kodagu-Mysuru, made the announcement during the inauguration of the new MP's office at the Madikeri district administration building.
In July, Wadiyar met Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to expedite the project. The foundation stone for the greenfield highway was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March 2023. Spanning 547 hectares, the project will involve a land acquisition cost of ₹1,100 crore.
The highway will commence at Paschimavahini in Srirangapatna and end near Guddehosur in Kushalnagar. It will be executed in packages, passing through P. Agrahara-Palahalli in Srirangapatna, Hunsur, Periyapatna, and Kushalnagar.
Once completed, the highway is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance safety, and provide a smoother commute for residents and visitors to Kodagu.
