KUSHALNAGAR: Karnataka is witnessing widespread condemnation after two students were reportedly asked to remove their janivara (sacred thread) during the ongoing Common Entrance Test (CET) exams. The issue has sparked protests across the state, including in Kushalnagar, in Kodagu where demonstrators voiced their discontent over the alleged religious discrimination.
Members of the Brahmana Kshemaabhivruddhi Sangha gathered in front of a Ganesha temple to denounce the conduct of CET authorities. The group described the actions of officials at examination centres in Bidar and Shivamogga as “deeply insensitive” and demanded strict disciplinary measures against those involved. Following the demonstration, protestors marched to the Tahsildar's office and submitted a formal memorandum seeking intervention.

In Bidar, a student claimed he was barred from appearing for his Mathematics paper on April 17 after he refused to remove his janivara, despite having written his Physics, Chemistry, and Biology exams while wearing it. “I was permitted to write the other exams with my sacred thread. But on the day of the Maths exam, I was suddenly told I must take it off. I chose not to,” he told reporters.
In a similar case reported from Shivamogga, another student alleged that officials forcibly cut his janivara on April 16 when he refused to comply with the directive to remove it. The Karnataka Brahmanara Mahasabha and other Brahmin organisations have condemned the incident and submitted a formal complaint to the Deputy Commissioner.
