Kodava Documentary ‘Ummathat’ Selected for Screening at Mumbai International Film Festival

Madikeri: Ummathat – The Rhythm of Kodava, a documentary capturing the rich cultural heritage of the Kodava community, has been selected for screening at the prestigious 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF), scheduled to be held from June 15 to June 21, 2026.
Directed by State award-winning filmmaker Prakash Kariappa K and produced by his wife K Yeshoda Prakash under their banner Swasthik Entertainment, the documentary began as a passion-driven archival project aimed at preserving the traditional Kodava dance form, Ummathat.

What started as an effort to document an important aspect of Kodava culture gradually evolved into a film festival entry. The documentary first gained national recognition when it was selected for screening in the Indian Panorama Non-Feature section at the 56th edition of the International Film Festival of India held in Goa.
The upcoming screening at MIFF marks another significant milestone for the film and for Kodava cultural representation on a national platform.
Organised by the National Film Development Corporation, MIFF is one of the country's premier biennial festivals dedicated to documentary, short fiction and animation films. The festival will be hosted at the NFDC-Films Division Complex on Pedder Road in Mumbai and will showcase acclaimed productions from India and around the world.
