Kodagu to Host First State-Level Athletics Meet for Deaf Students on September 19

The event, which aims to promote inclusivity and encourage sporting talent among Deaf students across Karnataka.

Gonikoppa: The much-awaited 1st Karnataka State Inter-School/Institute Athletics Championship of the Deaf has been rescheduled to September 19, 2025, due to a clash with government mid-term examinations.

Originally slated for September 12, the event was postponed at the request of the District Deaf School Principal, as students will be appearing for their exams between September 12 and 16. Organisers have emphasised that academic priorities take precedence and thanked all stakeholders for their understanding.

The event, which aims to promote inclusivity and encourage sporting talent among Deaf students across Karnataka, is being organised by the Kodagu District Deaf Association (KDDA) in collaboration with the Karnataka Sports Federation of the Deaf and the Karnataka State Deaf Welfare Association.

With the new date confirmed, the organisers have secured the KALS School stadium in Gonikoppa as the venue. The Principal of KALS School has not only granted permission to host the event but has also generously agreed to provide free lunch for all participants, a gesture that has been warmly welcomed by the organisers.

The championship will see Deaf students from various schools and institutes compete in athletics, and the organising committee is working to provide medals, mementos, and support to all participants. The association has also appealed for sponsorships and assistance from individuals, businesses, and organisations interested in promoting inclusive sports.
