Siddapura: In an unusual occurrence, the lemon tree on Mookonda Viju Subramani's property in Pollibetta, Kodagu district, has produced lemons weighing an astonishing five kilograms each.

The lemon plant, planted a few years ago, has now grown to a height of approximately six feet. The citrus fruits it produces vary from standard sizes to an extraordinary weight of 5 kg. Mr. Subramani initially bought lemons from a Mysuru market four years ago and planted one unused fruit in his backyard among the coffee plants, resulting in the remarkable 5 kg lemons.

According to Mr. Subramani, the local name for this lemon variety is 'Gaja Nimbe.' This rare type of lemon is known for its adaptability to various climates and is commonly found in countries such as Italy and Europe.

Many local residents in and around Pollibetta have visited Mr Subramani's farm to see the unusual lemon.
