Kodagu’s Historic Padi Sri Igguthappa Temple gets New President

Madikeri: The Executive Committee of the historic Padi Sri Igguthappa Temple, one of the most revered shrines in Kodagu, has unanimously elected B.U. Poovanna as its new President. Poovanna will serve in this role for a period of three years.
The election was held in the presence of committee members, where all members expressed their unanimous support for Poovanna’s leadership. The decision marks a continuation of the temple’s tradition of collective decision-making and community consensus in administrative matters.

Prominent members present at the meeting included Kusha Bhat, K.C. Ramesh, C.D. Usha, K.C. Nail, P.M. Narendra, A. Jagadish, Bheemayya, and Ullas R. Executive Officer R. Ravikumar, along with P.T. Thammayya and Srikanth, also attended the proceedings.
Located in Kakkabe, the Padi Sri Igguthappa Temple holds immense spiritual and cultural significance for the Kodava community. Dedicated to Lord Igguthappa, revered as the ‘Rain God’ and believed to be an incarnation of Lord Subramanya, the temple plays a central role in Kodava traditions, especially during rituals seeking good harvests and prosperity. The temple’s management committee oversees not just the administration of rituals but also its upkeep, festivals, and welfare activities for devotees.
