Ponnampet: In a time marked by the absence of communal harmony in the country, it is worth highlighting that in the Kodagu district, the Muslim community actively engaged in the celebration of the Puthari festival.
'Puthari', the annual rice harvest festival of the people in Kodagu district was celebrated with grandeur and traditional fervour across Kodagu district on Monday, November 27.
The harvest festival was joyously observed by the Kodava Muslim community at Aimangala near Gonikoppa, organized by the Kodava Muslims Association (KMA) in collaboration with the Kodava and other local communities.

Community members proceeded to the paddy fields in the Jamma Gadde of the Kolumanda family. Following prayers, they actively participated in the harvesting of the new crop, accompanied by celebratory gunfire.
KMA President Duddiyanda H. Sufi Haji said, "We have been celebrating the Puthari festival since 1948. The entire village community gathers to joyously celebrate, sharing traditional Puthari delicacies such as thambutt (crafted from roasted rice flour and mashed banana) and sweet potato specially prepared for the occasion."
